eli-whitney-new-playgroundThe Eli Whitney Recreation Center, 4110 E. Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, has a new public playground thanks to Alamance County and Impact Alamance.

Installed in early April, it has a sunshade with picnic tables, perimeter benches, spring riders, multiple slides, two climbing features on the central platform, pod climbers and monkey bars.

It was designed to reflect the culture and history of the recreation center and the community. The main play area platform is designed to represent an old-time schoolhouse. It features panels with quick facts about the history of the original school and textiles in Alamance County, a quilt-patterned panel showcasing Uncle Eli’s Quilting Party, a panel about cotton gins with an interactive gear and crank mechanism for hands-on activity, and spring riders shaped like boll weevils.
